Fredericksburg (WFVA) -- Veterans Day was observed yesterday downtown at "Our Fallen Heroes" memorial near Maury Stadium. Among the speakers, Douglas Robb--an Air Force General, Doctor, and Director of the Defense Health Agency. He said advances in medicine allowed more veterans to attend ceremonies yesterday instead of having their names read on Memorial Day. Robb said in Iraq and Afghanistan there were 200 amputees that went back to active duty. 40 returned to combat. The family of George Bannar Jr of Orange County was recognized yesterday. Bannar died in Afghanistan earlier this year.
