Shooting/Barricade Situation In City

Fredericksburg (WFVA)  -- Long night for area law enforcement.  A suspect was arrested about 2:30 this morning at The Commons apartments on Cowan Blvd after a shooting and barricade situation that developed around 9 last night. 50-year old Michael Bailey faces multiple charges.    Police were called the apartment complex--next to the Police Station-- where they found a 52-year old man who had been shot multiple times.  He's expected to survive.  The victim told police he had known Bailey for over a year and they had disputes prior to yesterday’s incident. Police say immediately after the shooting, Bailey retreated to his apartment and was seen holding a gun and breaking out the windows of his residence.   The Fredericksburg Special Equipment and Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the scene. Communication was established very quickly with the shooter and was ongoing throughout the incident.   Troopers from the Virginia State Police, deputies from the Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and Stafford Sheriff's Offices, and officers from the Prince William County Police Department also deployed to assist with containment and tactical support. Police say Bailey fired a weapon several more times both inside and outside his apartment after officers arrived, and at one point a Fredericksburg officer returned fire.   Nearly six hours after the initial shooting, Bailey walked out of his apartment and surrendered to police.  The investigation continues.
