Spotsylvania (WFVA) -- Fredericksburg City Council is scheduled to vote on Tuesday night on a stadium financing plan that would be the first step to bringing the Hagerstown Suns to the city. The plan calls for the city to finance a 7 million dollar parking lot. Most of the stadium would be financed by the Suns and its business partner Diamond Nation. Besides the stadium there would be 5 artificial turf fields where Diamond Nation would host baseball and softball tournaments.
In Spotsylvania last night, Bob Hagan told the Economic Development Authority that he has an agreement in place to purchase 40 acres of land near a proposed I-95 Interchange south of Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center. He proposes a self-financed stadium with a team in place by the spring of 2016. Hagan says he's been in talks with several team owners interested in the Spotsylvania site. Hagan says Suns owner Bruce Quinn has seen attendance drop despite a winning team on the field.
