Stafford County

Route 17
(New) Tuesday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. The single right northbound lane on Route 17 (Warrenton Road) before the I-95 northbound off ramp will be blocked to repair guardrail. Motorists should stay alert to the work zone and anticipate brief delays.

Route 206
(New) Wednesday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) just west of the Peppermill Creek bridge to repair guardrail. Motorists should stay alert to flaggers directing traffic through the work zone and anticipate brief delays.

Route 610
(New) Sunday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. and Tuesday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ noon. The single eastbound left lane on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) will be closed near the Onville Road intersection to remove the median, electrical work, and a concrete pour on Tuesday.

Chatham Bridge
(Update) Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one eastbound lane on the Chatham Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Crews will continue to work to improve sidewalks and railings on the bridge between Stafford County and the city of Fredericksburg. Pedestrian access may be restricted to one side of the bridge overnights when crews are working.

Routine Maintenance

Spotsylvania County

Route 1 and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road)
(New) Construction starts Monday, Feb. 27 at the intersection of Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road) to improve traffic flow by adding and extending turn lanes. Next week, no lane closures are scheduled, but motorists should be alert for crews installing signs and sediment control fencing. The project will be completed by July 11, 2017.

Routine Maintenance
Tuesday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

City of Fredericksburg

Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 9:30 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Two lanes will be closed on I-95 southbound at mile marker 131 to allow crews to clean and stain the new Fall Hill Avenue overpass. A single lane will be closed at 9:30 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will be open to traffic by 5 a.m. each day.

Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Two lanes will be closed on I-95 northbound at mile marker 131 (Fall Hill Avenue) to allow crews to clean and stain the northbound side of the new Fall Hill Avenue bridge. . A single lane will be closed at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will be open to traffic by 4:30 a.m. each day.

Route 1 Southbound at Mary Washington Boulevard
(New) Monday˗˗ Thursday, 10 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. A single right lane will be closed on southbound Route 1 between Alvey Drive and the Rappahannock Canal bridge. Crews will be installing new curbing and gutter at various locations in the work zone. Motorists may encounter brief delays.

Fall Hill Avenue
Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the Rappahannock Canal for construction activity. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Mary Washington Boulevard
Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard as part of the Fall Hill Avenue widening project. Motorists should stay alert for ongoing work in the median with crews working to install new curb and paving.

Caroline County

Route 722
(New) Sunday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road) near Industrial Drive as crews inspect the bridge over the CSX Railroad tracks. Expect brief delays near the work zone.

Route 301 at Rappahannock River
(New) Friday, 6:30 a.m. ˗˗6:30 p.m. Traffic will be down to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound at the bridge over the Rappahannock River for work related to the bridge rehabilitation project. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.

Essex County

Route 360
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 6 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures and brief delays on Route 360 westbound from the King and Queen County line to about a mile west of the Gordon Mill Road intersection for asphalt patching.

Route 659
(New) Wednesday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on Route 659 (Desha Road) near Route 627 (Mt. Landing Road) to repair guardrail. Motorists should stay alert to flaggers directing traffic through the work zone and anticipate brief delays.

Middlesex County/Lancaster County

Robert. O. Norris Bridge
Monday ˗˗ Saturday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 3 at the Norris Bridge, as preparation work continues to paint the bridge’s three center spans. The project contractor has started installing the platform system required to paint the bridge. An automated flagging station at the bridge approach will control one-way traffic across the Rappahannock River, one direction at a time. Motorists should expect delays of 10-15 minutes around 7 a.m. as workers set up the work zone and approximately five minutes the remainder of the day. VDOT personnel will monitor traffic conditions.

Middlesex County

Route 17
(New) Thursday ˗˗ Saturday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 6 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures and brief delays on Route 17 northbound between the Route 17 Business intersection and Mount Zion Road for asphalt patching.

Richmond County

Route 360
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 6 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures and brief delays on Route 360 eastbound between the east end of the Downing Bridge to Newland Road for asphalt patching.

Westmoreland County

Route 3
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Motorists should expect intermittent single lane closures and brief delays on Route 3 at various locations in this mobile work zone. Crews will install new guardrail along Route 3 from the King George County line and Oak Grove, and Route 205 (Ridge Road).

Route 205
(New) Tuesday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on Route 205 (Ridge Road) near Route 631 (Longfield Road) to repair guardrail. Motorists should stay alert to flaggers directing traffic through the work zone and anticipate brief delays.

Highway Improvement Projects

City of Fredericksburg

Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park), as well as on Mary Washington Boulevard. Project completion is January 2017.

Route 1/ Hazel Run Bridge Rehabilitation Project
Work to improve the Route 1 bridge over Hazel Run in the city of Fredericksburg is underway. The bridge is located on Route 1 between Idlewood Boulevard and Kings Mill Drive. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment and crews working along the shoulder until early spring. All travel lanes will be open in the work zone. The bridge rehabilitation project is expected to be complete in May 2017.

Stafford County

95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus Extension
Construction is underway to extend 95 Express Lanes in Stafford County. The approximate 2.5 mile extension will carry traffic beyond the flyover ramp where 95 Express Lanes currently end, just north of Exit 143/Route 610 (Garrisonville Road). The new southbound exit ramp is scheduled to open by early 2018, and the northbound entrance ramp will open in summer 2018.

I-95/Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Widening and Interchange Relocation
Preliminary geotechnical work is underway on a project to improve the I-95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project includes building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Rd. and Rt. 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, widen Courthouse Rd. to four lanes, and add a traffic signal at the entrance to Colonial Forge High School. Construction to widen Courthouse Road will begin in summer 2017, and the entire project is expected to be complete by summer 2020.

Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) to build additional turn lanes. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction on Onville Road. Project completion is May 2017.

Spotsylvania County

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Interstate 95 Overpass Replacement and Road Improvements
The project to build a new I-95 overpass on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road), provide improvements to interstate ramps, Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95 and Mallard Road is underway. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment on I-95 between mile marker 119 and Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg), Mudd Tavern Road, and Mallard Road. Construction for the $22.4 million project is expected to be complete by September 2019.
Route 1 and Route 620 (Harrison Road)
Construction to build additional turn lanes and extend existing turn lanes is underway at the intersection of Route 1 and Harrison Road in Spotsylvania County. Motorists should be alert for construction crews and equipment. Project completion is May 2018.

Caroline County

Route 17 and Route 301 Intersection
Crews are currently working to upgrade the existing signal equipment at the intersection of Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) and Route 301 (A.P. Hill Boulevard). The modernized signal equipment will be fastened to mast arms from signal poles and will be aligned properly with the travel lanes. Most construction work will occur outside the existing travel lanes till this spring. The project is expected to be complete in the fall.

Caroline County/King George County

Route 301 at Rappahannock River
Bridge rehabilitation is underway on the James Madison Memorial Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Maintenance will occur below the bridge deck and includes repairing concrete, replacing bearings, shoring up rip-rap on the slope, and replacing navigation lights. All lanes are currently open on the bridge, but single lane closures will be in place periodically. Project completion is October 2017.

Caroline County/King and Queen County

Route 721 (Newtown Road)
Construction is underway to build a new bridge over Beverly Creek at the Caroline County and King and Queen County line. Motorists are restricted to a single lane controlled by a temporary traffic signal in the work zone. The project is expected to be complete in July 2017.

King George County
Route 218/Route 206 Intersection
Crews will be working to install a new traffic signal at the Route 218 (Caledon Road) and Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) intersection. Most construction work will occur outside the existing travel lanes till spring 2017. Project completion is fall 2017.
