Spotsy Girl Thanks Sheriff’s Office

(Spotsylvania)- From the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office:

Kayla Darr is a ten year old and rising 5th grader who resides in Spotsylvania County. She decided to spend her summer quite differently than many children. She wanted it to be constructive and to make a difference.

Her father, Joseph Darr said he wanted Kayla to have an appreciation for law enforcement and the sacrifices they make. “I don’t want her to grow up seeing only the hatred and bad feelings between law enforcement and society that are so prevalent today.”

So together they decided that Kayla would reach out to officers when she had the opportunity, present them with a gift of appreciation and let them know she how important they are to us.

That effort began when she spotted a deputy who lives in her subdivision. Deputy Rich Vasquez lives nearby and Kayla wanted to start by thanking him. So with her father’s help they purchased a favorite of Deputy Vasquez’ and presented it to him at his house. He was so touched he immediately changed into uniform and returned to give Kayla a complete “tour” of his vehicle including lights and siren and talk to her about his job. It was a win win according to Kayla’s father. She was overjoyed with this response and Deputy Vasquez was touched by her thoughtfulness.

Joseph Darr says his daughter has a loving heart. She feeds the homeless at a church downtown and loves spending time with babies. When she isn’t making a difference in her community she loves her trampoline and video games. We could all use a lot more Kaylas.
