(Spotsylvania)- A 28-year old Spotsylvania man has been arrested for brandishing a firearm at a Spotsylvania Deputy and threatening his life.

The incident occurred as the Deputy was responding to a call in the area of Glade Road. Upon arriving in the area, William Chandler, was seated in a vehicle, yelling and pointing a gun at the deputy.

Chandler then fled the scene in a black Hyundai sedan. The Deputy put out a broadcast of what had just occurred and the information was transmitted to all surrounding jurisdictions, including Fredericksburg Police.

Police say Chandler crashed into another vehicle in the intersection of Plank Road and Bragg Road, near Spotsylvania Towne Centre. The vehicle crash caused non-life threatening injuries to another person in the vehicle. Chandler ran from the scene and continued his attempt to evade arrest. Officers from the Fredericksburg Police Department observed Chandler several minutes later, crossing the I-95 Bridge at Route 3, (Plank Road). City police pursued and arrested Chandler without further incident.

Chandler was turned over to Spotsylvania Deputies, who charged him with numerous Felony and Misdemeanor crimes, resulting from the incident. Chandler was ordered to be held without bond, by the Magistrate and was transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Sheriff Harris: “This is another example of how our law enforcement professionals put their lives on the line every day, for the citizens of our community. You never know when you may be faced by an armed suspect, intent on taking your life.”
