(Stafford)- The Stafford School Board last night approved giving teachers a 4% pay raise. A clerical error showed teachers receiving a larger pay increase that the board had factored into it’s budget. The 4% was a compromise. It will cost just over a million dollars. Some board members said the budget couldn’t absorb the increase. Others said taking away the increase would impact morale. The board agreed to a mid year review to look at other increases. Board members Eagan and McOsker voted no. Board chairwoman Holly Hazard was a reluctant yes. She said her vote was to ensure contracts could be given to teachers by June 15th. Vice-Chairwoman Irene Eagan said she opposed defict spending.
