(Fredericksburg)- Fredericksburg Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw met today with his Excellency, Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki, the Ambassador of Nepal to the United States along with University of Mary Washington President, Rick Hurley and representatives of the recently formed Fredericksburg-Kathmandu Sister City committee.
The emerging relationship with Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital city, is building on relief efforts undertaken by Fredericksburg residents in response to the April 2015 earthquake that devastated large portions of the mountainous country. Organizers say the sister city relationship has the potential to broaden arts, culture, business, and educational opportunities for residents of both cities. Kathmandu is Fredericksburg’s fourth sister city, joining Frejus, France, Schwetzingen, Germany, and Este, Italy.
