The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office says a woman’s boyfriend has been arrested and charged with scalding her 9 month old infant. The incident took place at a Spotsylvania motel last week. Authorities say William Schmuhl is not the child’s father. Authorities were contacted by the Mary Washington Hosptial emergency room at Lee’s Hill after the child was brought to the ER suffering from extensive emersion type burns, common to dipping a child into scalding hot water. The child was stabilized and transferred to MCV in Richmond for advanced burn treatment and possible surgery. Schmuhl is charged with felony child abuse. He’s in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
