Big Stafford Development Rejected

The Stafford Planning Commission on Wednesday night rejected what would have been the largest development ever in Stafford. The proposed George Washington Village now goes to the Board of Supervisors who have final say. The nearly 3-thousand home subdivision in the Hartwood District includes divided villages and a town center. Attorney Charlie Payne told the commission that Stafford County needs the project for jobs and to meet the demands of growth. Commission Bob Gibbons said the county can’t afford George Washington Village right now. Commission Chairman Mike Rhodes unsuccessfully argued to keep working with the applicant on changes.
