Buffett Committs $2 million to Germanna Community College Program

FREDERICKSBURG – Fredericksburg philanthropist Doris Buffett has committed $2 million to a Germanna Community College mentoring, tutoring and scholarship program that will reach out to local kids who need help and are willing to work hard to succeed.

The new Germanna Community College Gladys Todd Academy will provide mentoring, tutoring and Dual Enrollment scholarships for students at Walker-Grant and Post Oak middle schools and at James Monroe and Spotsylvania high schools.

The program is for underserved students who will be the first in their families to go to college, with a special focus on African American males. The goal is for the students to earn associate’s degrees by the time they graduate from high school.
