Barricade Incident at Relax Inn in Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG – UPDATE: 10:40 p.m. – Fredericksburg Police say the incident on Princess Anne Street has been resolved. The suspect is in custody.

Official Release from the Fredericksburg City Police:
The subject who barricaded himself inside a room at the Relax Inn has been taken into custody and transported to the hospital for a mental evaluation.  There are no criminal charges against the man, who surrendered to the Fredericksburg Police Department’s Special Equipment Tactical Team after a five-hour standoff at the motel on Princess Anne Street.   The 53-year-old man is being held on an Emergency Custody Order pending an evaluation by mental health professionals.

City Police tell us there is a barricade incident involving a lone male at the Relax Inn on Princess Anne St. The 1900 block of Princess Anne is closed. Traffic being detoured. No hostages. Please avoid the area.

Official Release from the Fredericksburg City Police:
There is a lone male barricaded in a room at the Relax Inn, 1904 Princess Anne St.  Police arrived at approximately 5 pm to take subject into custody on a magistrate-issued Emergency Custody Order.  This is an order to hold him for an evaluation from a mental health professional.

 

Subject refused to come out of his room and refused entry to police.  Our Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) and Special Equipment and Tactical Team (SETT) are on scene.  Negotiation process is underway.

 

It is unknown if the subject is armed.  There are no hostages.

 

Subject is known to police and is a local man.  He currently has no fixed address.

 

The 1900 block of Princess Anne St is closed down and traffic is being diverted.  No evacuations have been ordered; other residents of the motel are sheltering in place.  A police command post has been set up across the street.
