Spotsylvania School Bus Accident Sends Students to Hospital

SPOTSYLVANIA – Approximately 11:00 this morning, a Spotsylvania County School bus and vehicle collided at Route 208 and Morris Road.

Per Captain Pearce, Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, said female driver of passenger vehicle was trying to beat the light and entered the intersection after light had turned red. The school bus, who had green light, was already making a left hand turn off Morris Road when accident occured.

Pearce said the driver of passenger vehicle was entrapped and required fire and rescue help to be removed from vehicle. Driver was transported to Mary Washington Hosptial (MWH). Drivers condition is being evaluated.

9 children were slightly injured and transported to MWH and Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center for evaluation. 2 children were transported to the emergency room at MWH and conditions on those two children are now being reported as good.

The school bus was transporting 30 Commonwealth Governor’s School students and staff from Massaponax High School to Spotsylvania High School.

The accident is still under investigation with charges pending against vehicle driver, per Pearce.
